Experience the Charm of Nagaya: Our Calligraphy and Emoji Class at Karahori Arcade

Nestled in the heart of Osaka’s historic Karahori Arcade, our calligraphy and emoji class takes place in a beautifully preserved Nagaya (長屋), a traditional Japanese townhouse that offers a unique glimpse into the past.

What is Nagaya?

Nagaya, literally meaning "long house," is a traditional style of Japanese housing that dates back to the Edo period. These townhouses are characterized by their narrow, elongated design, with several units sharing common walls. Each unit was typically home to a single family, fostering a strong sense of community among neighbors.

These historic buildings are now a rare find in modern cities, but in Karahori Arcade, the charm of Nagaya lives on. Walking through the arcade, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time, with retro shops and original row houses lining the streets.

Our Class in a Nagaya

We’re excited to invite you to our calligraphy and emoji class, held in one of these beautifully renovated Nagaya. The second floor of this hidden gem has been transformed into a serene space where you can learn the art of Japanese brush calligraphy and create your very own happiness emojis. Surrounded by the history and culture of Karahori Arcade, you’ll experience a truly authentic side of Osaka.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, our class offers a chance to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese culture while creating something uniquely yours. Plus, after the class, why not take a stroll through the arcade and explore the quaint shops and cafés? It’s the perfect way to spend a day in Osaka.
